 New Chairman for Reliance Mutual

Reliance Mutual Insurance Society Limited (Reliance Mutual) has appointed Seamus Creedon as its new chairman.

Creedon joined the Reliance Mutual board as a non-executive director in March this year and he succeeds Paul Oldham, who retires from the board having served 15 years as a non-executive director and 7 years as chairman.

Commenting on his appointment Seamus Creedon said,  “Under Paul Oldham’s stewardship, Reliance Mutual has made tremendous progress and has moved with the times in what has been a very fast changing marketplace, especially over the last 5 years where the business has grown with assets increasing to £1.7 billion from £491 million.  Paul has always served our members best interests and he leaves their business in a very strong financial position going forward.

“In helping Reliance Mutual take advantage of future opportunities and face future challenges, I look forward to working closely with chief executive Mark Goodale, his management team and our other independent non-executive directors who all have a wealth of experience.  We are committed to achieving solid performance to the benefit of all our members at Reliance Mutual.”

An actuary and management consultant, Creedon was until recently a partner at KPMG, where he led the UK actuarial practice from 2000-2003 and was the deputy leader globally.  More recently he had advised the Irish Government on competition issues in their health insurance market.

Prior to his time at KPMG, he had been Chief Executive of Bank of Ireland's Life Assurance business, and Head of Corporate Development across Europe. Before that he was Actuary and Chief Executive Ireland for Abbey Life.

He has a high profile in professional circles as well, being a member of the Council of the Institute of Actuaries, and Chair of the Solvency II Life Working Group of the European actuarial profession. He qualified as an actuary in 1976.
